The Cliffs

Like an echo between the North Atlantic and the Danish coastline, this work carries traces of landscapes that speak the same visual language. The inspiration comes from the Faroese bird cliffs and the golden moss that glows against the dark rocks like small flames across the landscape. The moss’s warm radiance can be found both on the Faroese cliffs and along the Danish coastline, creating a shared palette of colours across the Atlantic. The golden hues in the work are drawn from this source, while the lighter tones are inspired by the soft markings that generations of seabirds have left upon the cliff surfaces over time. The composition is built in layers, where the dark raw surface meets golden and lighter tones. Colours and textures balance the weight of the cliffs with the ever-changing light of the sea. Within the tension between the raw and the gentle, a space emerges where the invisible becomes visible, and where nature’s own stories can be sensed between the colours and the layers.
